George Malvin Holley papers, 1897-1963.

The papers are comprised of four series. The Business series, 1900-1948 (4.8 cubic ft.), Acc. 73.145.1, contains papers documenting a number of the companies formed by George and Earl Holley. The records include a large run of patents applied for by George Holley or assigned to him by others, correspondence, memorandum, financial material, and clippings. The Aviation series, 1925-1932 (0.8 cubic ft.), Acc. 73.145.1, contains material relating to Holley's aviation interests and related companies. Of particular note are cancelled stamps from the first airmail service offered by Western Air Express in 1926 (Western Air Express flew between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City). The Personal series, 1902-1963 (8 cubic ft. and 3 oversize boxes), Acc. 73.145.1, contains material relating to George Holley's family, personal investments, celebrations and tributes, and personal correspondence. Correspondents include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes series. There are also photographs of automobiles, aircraft, company products; photographs of a fiftieth anniversary company party hosted by the sons of George and Earl Holley in 1952; scrapbooks and photograph albums; and a few original drawings. The last series, Holley Years in Transportation, 1901 to 1952 (0.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 645, is a leather-bound notebook of papers, photographs, and photocopies dated December 25, 1952. It includes photocopied images of the Holley Motorette, Holley's typewritten recollections of his first meeting with Henry Ford, a typescript of a 1946 Holley radio interview, typewritten recollections of achievements in the early years of the aviation industry, and family pictures.

George Holley, a founder with his brother Earl of Holley Motor Company in 1903, was one of the earliest suppliers to Olds Motor Works, Ford Motor Company, and other Detroit automobile manufacturers.
